DIRECTOR OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT
The Director of Tourism Development is responsible for directing and managing Panama City Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) tourism development efforts by: collaborating with private-sector developers, local governments, Bay County Economic Development Alliance, and other partners to develop, expand, enhance and diversify the tourism product; seeking grants, sponsorships and other external funding to assist the CVB in creating new tourism opportunities products and sustain existing festivals, events and other tourism opportunities sponsored or supported by the CVB; and overseeing the development of the CVB’s tourism development plan. This position reports to the President/CEO of the CVB and will work very closely with the Vice President of Sports Marketing, Vice President of Marketing, and Director of Community Relations.
General Scope of Duties
• Act as liaison with the developers, local economic development officials and other stakeholders related to the CVB’s product development initiatives.
• Work with CVB staff, Board of Directors and industry stakeholders in developing and maintaining a Tourism Development Plan for Panama City Beach.
• Serve as the CVB’s primary point of contact with developers and other parties looking to invest and/or create new tourist businesses in Panama City Beach.
• Remain current with existing and potential incentives, grants and other funding strategies offered by private, governmental and other sources.
• Educate stakeholders (current & potential) on incentives, grants and other funding sources to maintain, expand, or develop tourism businesses on Panama City Beach.
• Maintain an inventory of current tourism product assets, as well as list of deficit areas, that if filled could further diversify and strengthen Panama City Beach’s tourism economy.
• Actively seek grants and other external streams to assist the CVB in executing its mission.
• Work collaboratively with the Bay County Economic Development Alliance and other local organizations involved in economic development activities to help ensure we are securing the best possible development outcomes.
Other Duties
Duties are subject to change as directed by management. The Director of Tourism Development will perform other assignments as instructed by the President/CEO of the CVB.
Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor Degree from an accredited four-year college in tourism, business administration, community planning or similar field is preferred
• Three years experience in a multi-faceted community or business development position
• Demonstrated ability to analyze project needs, focus on achievement, manage details, and think creatively
• Experience in the development and implementation of strategic and/or economic development plans
• Experience in project management
• Demonstrated understanding of economic development strategies and incentive models
• Demonstrated experience and success in grant writing, fund raising and/or sponsorship development
• Possess strong interpersonal skills and must be computer literate
